By the end of February (yes, it was almost two weeks ago; I've been on holiday) I'd had just over a hundred beers this year. So this is a quick round-up of the best ones.
I was just at the Big Time this afternoon and tried the newest Hopfest (a rotating showcase for different hops), which this time featured Glacier Hops from Yakima, and it's really good. I was recommending it to random strangers at the pub, and they seemed to like it too. So I'm with you on the Mikkeller, and I'd love to try those four IPAs, even though I'm not typically an IPA drinker. (It's probably the most popular style on the US West Coast, so I suppose it seems mundane.)
I think I had Glacier in something recently, though I can't remember what. I just looked up Big Time in my guide book and it gets a good write-up, as I'm sure it should.
I have to say I'm a big fan of the West Coast IPAs but I suppose they're a bit more of a novelty over here. I can think of a couple of British breweries who are also doing single hop series but, like the Hopfest I suppose, you're only likely to get to try one at a time and it might be a while before you get another one. The advantage of the Mikkeller bottled ones is that you can compare a couple in an evening, which really shows how much difference there can be. Apparently there are currently seven in the series, so I'll have to keep an eye out for the others. It'd be an interesting night's tasting if you managed to get the set.
Bottleworks doesn't carry a lot of Mikkeller's stuff, although they usually have at least one variety in stock. I think the one they have now is an IPA, but I don't know if it's part of the single hop series
( ... )
Ambition? I want none of that talk around here, thank you very much. And it was 100 beers in under 60 days. Hopefully there'll be a few more by day 100. Even if it was mostly wine in France. See you in the pub later.
Well, quite a few of those wouldn't be "your sort of beer", so I have a wider range to choose from. Er, I'm sure that's the only reason, and not because I'm becoming some sort of alcholic. Oh no. I am, however, way behind you on wine.
Yeah, brewer not brewery, good point. I think I was trying not to be too pedantic, just for once. I'd seen the thing about his pub; sounds really good. I'm not sure it's worth a trip to Copenhagen for but if I happen to decide I want to visit there I'm sure that bar's somewhere I'll spend a lot of time.
And I always assume you've drunk everything, no matter how obscure, being a Beer God. I take it they were good?
Hey, you had gotten hold of the penguin before me. I just got around to it recently when visiting Pre-Zythos. http://desdemoor.co.uk/zythos-bierfestival-and-pre-zbf-2010/ So i did get to try it with Brewdog Martin. There was also some Bismark floating around, the new version of Hardcore IPA and a couple of testbrews that was'nt really there. So with that, visits to kulminator,ZBF, then Moeder Lambic, with 12 different kinds of Gueuze and Lambic on draught, in Brussels i seem to have toped out at about a hundred different beers. Yes, i did have help and lots of it was just a couple of sips.
Wow, sounds like a good weekend. I should really try to get to that one year. I take it that was the new Moeder Lambic; definitely somewhere I hope to get to next time I make it over to Belgium. A return trip to Kulminator would be nice too.
Yeah, I've managed to get a few "special" BrewDog's, though I think you win on almost every other brewery going. I may well be bringing a bottle of Penguin to Eastercon to pass around. I haven't even ordered any Bismark yet; with lots of going away just recently it would have been a pain to get it delivered.
