"he stretched out his hand desperately as if to snatch only a wisp of air, to save a fragment of the spot that she had made lovely for him. But it was all going by too fast now for his blurred eyes and he knew that he had lost that part of it, the freshest and the best, forever"

~F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

"I could only remember, without resentment, that she hadn't sent a message or a flower. Dimly I heard someone murmur 'Blessed are the dead that the rain falls on,' and then [he] said, 'Amen to that,' in a brave voice"

yeah it was great. its one of my brother's favorite books in the world. his screen name is goldengategatsby cuz he loves san francisco and gatsby. so i was really excited to read it, and i really liked it. so sad though.

for the most part yea... we read streetcar named desire, which i really liked, and east of eden which was great but SOOOOOOOOO long. i really like steinbeck. but before that we read huck finn, and i really didnt like it, maybe cuz i had to read so much at once cuz i procrastinated badly. and the scarlet letter was okay.
