I want to make a round rag rug using a hoop. I have found quite a few websites that almost have instructions, but they all seem to assume that anyone attempting this technique is very familiar with weaving in general. In other words... not me

Did you find these instructions?
I think what I'd do is I try it in miniature first using ribbon and a bangle bracelet, I think I understand the theory, but ribbon/bangle bracelet mini rugs would make cute coasters or two sewn together could be a little pouch.

See, this is why you are on my flist! I found instructions similar to that one, but without the pictures and not as detailed. This is sort of what I thought I had to do, but I wasn't sure, since my only experience in weaving is a scarf I made my grandmother when I was about 7 on a child's plastic loom.

I also had not thought of making little rag rug coasters. What an awesome idea, and I might be able to make those before Greg's family reunion (we have to make an item for the auction that helps pay for the reunion!). Plus it would be very portable. AND... I think I have some ribbons stashed somewhere when I replaced some of the Maypole ribbons last time I led the ritual. WOOT!
