Humming softly to herself, Nadeshiko shared a quick glance with her husband, who was following behind her with the heavy basket of laundry, and smiled, laughing as the still hanging towels kept flying up in the soft breeze and smacking him in the back of the head. Grabbing a few she quickly folded them and placed them on top of the rapidly growing pile in the basket, still laughing. “No fair,” he grinned, “I can’t defend myself when my hands are full like this.”

“I’m going as fast as I can,” she promised, “but I can’t control the wind you know.” She continued down the line grabbing whatever was next and folding it, reveling in the clean, crisp smell only achieved from drying in autumn sunlight and wind. “Besides it’s not as if it’s hurting you in any way,” she winked at him.

“No I suppose not,” he laughed.

“Mommy!” a young voice cried from the back door and both parents turned their heads towards the source of the call. “I got it!”

“Already?” she called back to the grinning face of a small boy proud of his achievements, peeking around the doorframe. “It took me three days to memorize that passage! I can’t wait to hear it!”

“It’s beautiful mommy! Though not as pretty as your song! Hurry! Hurry! I want you to come and listen! You too Dad!”

“Give us five minutes Touya and we’ll be in soon,” Fujitaka promised his son, who was quickly gone from their sight to go prepare. “It’s amazing what you’ve taught him already Nadeshiko,” he said turning back to his wife and the task at hand. “Though I have to admit, nothing is sweeter than seeing his small little body sitting at that huge piano. And the two of you together? Picture perfect.”

“It’s hard not to be proud of him isn’t? He catches on to everything so quickly, and he’s so sweet when he’s not being so intense,” she giggled.

“Yes, he does get quite a few little faces going there when he’s concentrating on something.” Mimicking a few of them, the two parents were soon laughing at the antics of their little boy, as all happy parents do.

“You know, dear,” Nadeshiko started, reaching for the last of the shirts, “Touya may soon have someone new to teach things too instead.” She twirled at the sound of the laundry basket hitting the ground with a loud thump, and met her husband’s startled eyes.

“You mean…?” The unfinished question left hanging in the air was soon answered by a small nod of her head, which he met with a face splitting smile before grasping her to him and engulfing her in his arms. “I love you,” he choked out, holding her even tighter to him, so overwhelmed by emotion he could hardly stand.

“And I you,” she whispered through her own happy tears now falling gently down her cheeks. She smiled up at him when he lifted his head to meet her eyes with his and they shared a loving kiss to celebrate.

“Ah!” he cried when they broke apart, “We have to go and tell Touya!” Taking a hold of her hand, they ran inside, and it was Fujitaka’s turn to act like a little kid telling Touya mommy had a surprise for him, and almost blurting the truth out before Nadeshiko could react.

Sounds of surprise and joyful laughter could soon be heard from the Kinomoto household, and somewhere in the midst of a London chill, Eriol Hiirigazawa looked up from his reading and smiled. “It’s almost time to begin."

And the last shirt still fluttered in the autumn breeze, completely forgotten.
