I just got a PM from a reader that has left me baffled, and also a little frustrated:

I normally never, and I mean never, private message an author unless Ipractically fall in love with the story. I must say, after reading "In Fire,In Ice" I was mildly disappointed with the rest of your stories. The writingstyles differ so much it's like another ( Read more... )

First of all, I'm not sure how, exactly, your other stories are lacking in comparison to In Fire, In Ice. Really, I quite adore it, but I think you've done better, so it doesn't even make sense to me. Seriously, though? Does he think fic writers are paid to do this? You have a life, and school, and plenty of other things, so why should you just drop them all in case your poor reviewers wont stay with you? First, thats what FFN alerts are for. Second, its been, what, a week or so since you last posted? And your chapters are how long? I mean, really, it takes time to produce quality. Everyone knows that. Come on! *ponders whether or not this guy is a troll*

Be sure to let us know if he responds to your message.

Wow. The threat in "you haven't posted fast enough so we'll stop reading soon"...I mean, really? If you like a story, you think threatening the author will get them to write it faster? Sure, I have no patience, but I like it when authors take their time with good stories.

That has got to be one of the most condescending messages I've ever read. And I'm glad you sent her a message back. We can hope she'll realize she was being inappropriate...but she probably won't.

People are just weird.
