Alright everyone, take a moment to think back on movies you’ve seen, and please leave me a little comment if you can think of a character who are “bad guys” but are also really good guys. "The Fields of Athenry" is one of my favorite story songs of all time. I'll send you an MP3 if you want...

I can't recommend any good adaptations, because I don't know of any, but right off the top of my head the character of Bosola in The Duchess of Malfi (The Webster original--Brecht's adaptation destroys that character) is one of the most complex hero-villians ever written...he's worth a read if you feel up to it. Aside from him, the Emperor in Hero has his moment, and there's the soldiers in The Last Samurai toward the end...

Matty Groves by Fairport Convention, also Crazy Man Michael by the same band. Not so much epics as really good stories. Then there is of course The Lizards, a long long song by Phish ...

Robert Hoover in Little Miss Sunshine. He encouraged his daughter to live up to unrealistic standards but in the end he supported her in the right way.
