She became lonely.
It took a few weeks, but it happened. She'd never felt it before-the way the empty filled her up. Especially when Sawyer couldn't stay in a serious mentality for more than 15 seconds. She wanted to be the same confident, self-assured person she was before the island made her weak.
His hands were beneath his stubbled face, cushioning his head from the ground, and Ana Lucia was, thankfully, no where in sight. She kicked his back hard enough to get a reaction.
“Kate?” He cried, rolling over.
“When's the next hike?” She asked.
“Kate-what, what is this? You haven't spoken to me in weeks.”
“Are you going to answer the question?” She asked, her eyebrows arching. His face contorted for a second, evaluating the situation.
“You're not coming,” he decided. She kicked him again and he cringed, letting out a groan. “Okay, okay. You're coming.”
They were deep in the jungle, less cautious than when they had first ventured out. They shoved branches out of the way and disregarded the odd noises which they had become accustom to. Locke had taken a sharp turn, unexplained, about a minute ago, saying not to follow him. Whether it had anything to do with the tension between Kate and Jack, they didn't know, but Sayid had also followed seconds later.
“How's Ana Lucia?” Kate mocked. Jack laughed with that sheepish smile, his head hanging down for a moment and coming back up to meet her eyes.
“What about Ana Lucia, Kate?” He asked.
“How are the two of you?”
“We're...I don't know. We're nothing,” he responded.
“Oh, yeah, Jack. Nothing,” Kate repeated, her grin spreading slowly in response to his smirk.
“Kate, she means nothing to me,” he said solemnly, brushing her hand and holding her eyes for a moment.
“You haven't exactly made that clear,” she murmured.
“I'm making it clear now,” he said.
