Fragments: I love flashback episodes like this, and with Jack on the team you can never have too much of it. Well… maybe too much of the sideburns, but I blame that on trying to blend into the time period.
Jack: I really liked how instead of years like the rest, we measure JackTime in amounts of deaths. I just wanted him to hit those two Torchwood bitches. Work for them, fine, but at least give me a little slap; they were beyond mean and deserved to be taken down a peg or two. The 1999 thing confused me, did he kill them all because of what Jack has always been saying, “The 21st century” is when it all changes? Or did he do it because he had some sort of vision? Obviously there are extensive files and records on Jack and how he’s immortal, so how is it Tosh never knew? Or Ianto? Owen I can understand, he may not look into anything, but Tosh certainly would and Ianto has said on several occasions he knows everything that goes on. Jack could have destroyed them after the 1999 thing, but he has superiors, his files would be in the system somewhere…
Tosh: I liked it, but I would have liked to have had a cheeky reference that maybe it was her that met the Doctor before, working undercover or something. Her having minimal contact with her mother seems a bit odd, considering 112 Captain Jack Harkness, but I remember her mother being in End of Days as her vision, so maybe after her death Jack let Tosh get more in touch with the rest of her family? It’s a bit of a stretch that UNIT would ever do that to anyone, which makes me think Jack used them to break her and see what kind of stress he could put her under, sort of ala V for Vendetta; but I have a hard time believing UNIT would do otherwise.
Ianto: I was hoping for more, but we get the drift clearly, he only wants to join so he can put his girlfriend in the basement. Oh, and the attraction between Jack and him has been there from the beginning. It was kind of short, and it kind of angered me that the ‘barbecue sauce’ Jack referenced in Cyberwoman, may just be dark chocolate(He could have just said, ‘Steve likes chocolate,’ and that would have been the end of it, not going through the whole barbecue sauce explanation).
Owen: I really liked it. You can see how his character could have developed from that person into the character he is now. Jack’s reasons for hiring him are a bit iffy, because I think a lot of people might react the same way even if they didn’t have the evidence Owen did.
I don’t want Rhys to be a part of the team, but I would like to see him have to deal with the John situation, for some reason when he sees Jack’s past I get really happy. Maybe because he’s supposed to be the ‘everyman’ and his reactions are mostly priceless. If Grey is in the next episode, does that mean we may actually hear Jack’s real name? *gasp* Yeah, I’m not holding my breath, but it would be nice.
