book clubFor our December book club, we have a tradition of doing something other than reading a regular book. Last year, we shared children's books. This year, we decided to each bring poems to share. I shared some of my own and a piece by June Jordan. Except for the latest piece about Candace, in a way, they were all remnants of the ( Read more... )

Is she willing to sell her house?

Well, in theory, yes. In reality, it would be difficult to sell. Very difficult. We both want to buy and live in A2. Unfortunately, the technicalities of making that happen aren't things we can easily overcome (dogs, credit score, housing market, student loan issues, etc.). So, moving into her place would be the logical choice, assuming that I can can get J1 an out-of-district pass so the can stay in A2 public schools... can't confirm he'd get that until May 2012.

I see. I know you're not in DC, though your post claims you are.

Yeah, I feel a certain aversion to the idea of you moving into her place, but namely because I just got caught in the throws of being in a similar living situation and having to get out of it.

I was actually considering purchasing a house or condo in A2 in the event that I get a position that'll be opening up in my department shortly and that securing it would entail the pay increase I've estimated. Lots of uncertainty in the matter, but it's nice to think about. A house just seems so permanent, though, and likely not entirely fiscally viable and certainly plump with risk, esp. with the loan debt I'll be graduating with. Haha... sounds like a bad idea the more I type.

I totally understand your aversion. It's one of our major issues that we need to deal with in therapy (whether we should take the risk of living together at all... she thinks I'm too messy; I don't like the vulnerability and the fact that I'd be giving up my favorite home so far which is a mile from work and walking/biking distance from Jonny's school. It would be major lame if things didn't work out.

Yeah, I gotta say, you should buy a condo now. At least in A2, you'd have a great rental market. I think even though I didn't have credit issues yet, after my first year of law school, the bankers would only put Dan on the mortgage because my debt to income ration had skyrocketed.

I mock lj by having it predict my location. How wack is it that it can't detect my location?! Crazy.
