i don't think all the questions have to be answered to make it a good movie. in life, all the questions aren't answered. these people didn't even know the answers. they were just presented with a problem (how to get a pregnant woman somewhere safe) and that's all they concentrated on, because that's all they had to know. so, yes, you're left with a bunch of mysteries, but no more so than you would be in everyday life ( ... )

See, I'm okay with MOST of the soldiers turning back around and firing, but I refuse to believe that EVERYONE would have. And all the bystanders, too, except Gypsy Lady who gets them to the boat and then mysteriously vanishes for no reason.

If I'd written the movie, I'd have had the baby shot, since they were walking her through a warzone with no more protection than a shawl. Or maybe just have it die of disease or exposure, since one-day-old babies are rather sensitive to such things. Then I'd have the guy and the mom row (with the gut wound, naturally) out to the bouy and wait. And wait. And the guy would die and STILL there would be no boat. Because there WAS no boat, and they were stupid enough to believe an urban legend of which they had NO information save what the gossip chain brought. Talk about stupid. They all deserved to die.

well, they had a little information about the boat. julia had made contact with someone who knew someone who knew someone who...

other than the guy getting killed by the terrorist group, i don't think it would have been too terrible for the mother to stay with them. she'd have been safe, or mostly, anyway. more so than going through the war zone or giving herself up to the government.

See, and I keep wondering why it would have been such a bad thing to go to the government. Certainly, I think it would have been better than running into a warzone, and the Fish would've scared me too. I realize she was afraid they'd take her baby away from her -- and maybe they'd have tried, but not if they'd gone to the media FIRST and PROVED to the public that she was the pregnant one. The government would STILL want to keep her and the baby alive, then, but they would have to recognize her as the mother. Since safety and life with her baby seemed the only things she wanted, I don't see why such an option was never considered.
