What kind of camera are you using? I'm starting to think about taking better pictures. Any recommendations? I'll be moving up from a point-and-shoot-digital and my phone.

I'm using an Olympus E-PL1, which I can't in good conscience recommend, as the only things I like about it are 1) its price 2) the quality of the pictures that it takes. But everything else about it is kind of a giant pain. It's had a couple of successors, though, and I bet those are ergonomically improved...

Your fourth group makes me wonder how many unemployed veterans are out there trying to scrape by and living the nomadic lifestyle. I imagine we're seeing quite a few more these days.

Yeah, jered was thinking the same thing, and I think you're probably both right.

I hate to be "that guy", but in the interests of accuracy: I'm pretty sure those tentacular-looking things in your photos are actually just seaweed, not any member of the animal kingdom.
