Good News: The infection has been removed from both hard drives!

Bad News: All data on both hard drives is gone.

Good News: I have two nice and shiny (empty) hard drives.

Bad News: I don't have the $150 or so, (depending where you go) to get Vista Home Basic operating system.

Ugh. Sorry to hear.

I am going to guess that making an unexpected leap to Linux is not practical at this time.
