Not trying to offend my Gaga fan friends, but...

Last night, I went with my wife and a friend of ours to see Lady Gaga in concert.  I have to admit that I've been a bit of a closet Gaga fan.  I don't listen to her music on an everyday basis in normal life or anything, but I do listen to her every time I run.  Her songs generally have great beats that keep my feet moving when I'm flagging ( Read more... )

You have just explained perfectly what my problem with her is. The shock thing is okay for a little while, but then it just gets old hat. I think I would like her more if she didn't keep trying to be out there and off the wall.

It worked for Rob Zombie right?

I agree, she's shock and "awe nice bum". Not much else.

*shrug*

She'll grow into her fame, or fade away.

This is who I've felt about her, pretty much all shock and flash, seeking fame, not much else, I just can't get excited about her. Her music's entertaining and some of it's catchy, but it's nothing new, and a lot of clever marketing.

I'm totally offended. ;) nah, you said i, I like her music, but... well, yeah I kinda wish it would go back to the days where musicians were just that and nothing else, you didn't know what they looked like and no body cared what they did if it wasn't sing (not that I ever lived in this mythical time but you get what I'm saying).

bottom line, I don't care what celebs do if its not in their entertainment field.

Honestly, I feel the same way. I don't really get what she's trying to do in her videos save being "edgy" and "shocking", but I still like her music because of the points you made. It's one of those things where I just separate the weird from the decent and go from there.

I agree that as a talented artist, she shouldn't have to use crass shock value to generate entertainment value, but she's hopping on a still-growing, largely successful trend in the pop music industry. She's certainly not the first pop star to try and shock fans, but she goes about it in a more extreme way than others in that genre have done in recent years. I think it was ladyskada who said Gaga reminds her of a female Marilyn Manson, and that about sums up Gaga's image for me, too.
