This stuff sounds really exciting, both the life in your brain and the life you're in now.
One note of caution. Grad school is emotionally unpleasant. Mind you it isn't that way for absolutely everyone, but the vast vast majority of people only suffer through it in order to get to a job they'll love for the rest of their lives(or at least a chance to apply). I sometimes worry that I've turned into a less enjoyable person because of the levels of stress due to grad school, and it's not a very good feeling. But, that's my experience in a vastly different field.
When I started here, all there was was swamp. Other people said I was daft to build a nation's capital on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one... stayed up!

as far as life decisions go it sounds like you're taking a bit of a taoist route, but yea, cows are really stinky
