If you'll recall my earlier posts concerning "Scottie," who lives in my subdivision's mysterious retention pond (seriously...it had a disappearing/reappearing/moving island the whole time this creature was spotted), you should know that he has vanished for the summer. I haven't seen the creature nor his island of spy activity since at least March.

After further consideration, I'm beginning to think the animal you see in the water is an anhinga, more commonly known as a water turkey or snakebird. Here's some information on the bird that I took from Wikipedia on the anhinga ( ... )

Na, I've seen enough of those around the Everglades and Biscayne Bay to be pretty confidant it's not a water moc. Its head is shaped a bit more like that than anything else so far, but its body never floats.

This is going to sound weird, but have you ever seen the 80s movie My Stepmother Is An Alien? You know the thing that lives in her purse? It looks and moves like that, except it does not have a giant Leela eye and it's darker in color. But imagine the thing in the purse moving around the water but the purse part remaining underwater and you've got Scottie.
