Good to hear from you! I'm so glad that married life is treating you well. I look forward to meeting this husband of yours. I'm trying to convince mine that we should travel out east next summer and meet all his family out there, and visit you too. We'll see. Your story about the slow heart rate is scary. Those moments when you suddenly realize you're the grownup and you're in charge ... wow. Had a few of those when I was looking after Skip and DJ all those years ago. I'm glad it turned out all right. Wish you could come out here and be my midwife when I'm ready! Hugs, Laura
I'm glad it worked out ok. That's a really scary story. What do you think those statistics mean? (3 "normal" births out of 11) Were the others dangerous situations? Hospital required births? Or something more benign? I guess those kind of numbers make me want to turn to conventional medicine (no offense) and I'd be glad to hear your take on it... I assume you don't think that negates midwifery as a viable choice...
Those statistics don't mean anything - I've done three years of the program (over 150 births including my time in africa) and everything generally has been really, really normal (except for a couple of blips in africa, but with limited resources, what are you going to do
( ... )
Thanks for the very well explained response. That makes a lot of sense, and the part about trusting our own bodies does resonate with me (for better or for worse). If/when I do get pregnant I would definitely like to review all the options available, and if I feel like I'm just not in a place where I'm so in touch with my body, then maybe more "conventional" means would make me feel more comfortable.
On the other hand maybe being with a woman who is compassionate, has time to spend talking to me and answering my questions, and has lots of experience would make me more comfortable.
I'm so happy for you following your passion. The world needs many more of you! :)
