Fannish goodness

I never got the hang of Tumblr, and have sadly lost touch with much of fandom because of it - much to my regret. This is my chance! Whether fandom returns to DW or migrates to yet another platform, my plan is to jump back in with both feet. I would love to find new friends and reconnect with old ones ( Read more... )

Hello again! I feel much the same way. I never got the hang of Tumblr, and felt I was rather out of touch with current happenings. I hope we both manage to reconnect with our friends!

How lovely to see you here! :-) Yes, fandom moved to tumblr and made me feel very old, because I just could not figure out how to have a conversation with people there. And then I just gave up. ;-)

I hope we both manage to reconnect with our friends!

Me too - good luck! Are you on Dreamwidth, btw? I am not sure LJ will be reviving at this point, but DW does seem to be surging to renewed life...

I am also on Dreamwidth as Mrs L, yes, though I don't get along very well with Dreamwidth, so I mostly hang around LJ. I feel like a dinosaur!

Anyway, link: https://mrs-leary.dreamwidth.org/

I actually also had trouble warming up to DW in the beginning, even though it is so close to LJ - but LJ does seem to have been permanently abandoned by most of fandom, and when the choice is between DW and Tumblr... ;-)

Well, hello there! I'm still keeping an eye on LJ from time to time, but yeah, I never got the hang of Tumblr either. Maybe I'll start hanging around again...

Hello to you too - great to meet up with you again! :-)

Tumblr works in a way my brain does not, I think! I mostly ended up feeling as though I were talking to myself while everyone else was somehow, mysteriously managing to connect and converse.

Are you on Dreanwidth, by any chance? I suspect LJ will not benefit from the return of tumblr-users as much as DW...

Oh, I haven't heard of Dreamwidth! I'll check it out. :)

Oh yes, do! It's very close to LJ, and seems to be the platform fans are flocking to as an alternative to Tumblr.

Guardian is a Chinese (non-animated) series that you can watch on YouTube in its entirety - with English subs, fortunately ( ... )

Cool! :-) But be careful, you might end up addicted... it's been known to happen. ;-) (It's a healthy addiction, though. And at only 40 episodes, you won't even lose a lot of tim e, really...)

I've had a Tumblr since 2011, but I've also remained here on LJ as well, because despite Tumblr being great for that fast-paced fandom fix via pretty gifs and whatnot (from being introduced to newer fandoms, especially ones that I wouldn't have known otherwise, getting in touch with older fandoms, and even smaller ones that I thought nobody was talking about, etc) Tumblr was never quite a great place for fandom interaction and a lot of what LJ fandom was in terms of a community was kinda lost there. Not to mention the toxic atmosphere it could become when all you're doing is talking into a void of people wanting nothing more than to prove you wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still on Tumblr, just the same as I'm still on LJ. But in terms of where fandom will migrate to next in the future, who knows? I just know that fandom, in general, has become quite fragmented which makes me rather sad.

I am pretty sure I still have a Tumblr, but I probably wouldn't even be able to find it at this point. ;-) As you say, I just could not manage to interact with people properly there. And even in my limited exposure to the platform, I do remember an instance of the toxicity you mention. I hadn't realized it was a general problem...

Are you on DreamWidth? Many fans seem to be heading there from Tumblr - not to LJ, as far as I can tell, and who knows if they will stay there, but...

I do, same handle, but I haven't done anything with it since I mostly keep it as a potential backup. I don't go on there much, since I primarily use LJ because there is more activity here than there, imho, so even if there are people going there now it'll probably be only temporary since I've seen it happen time and again anytime a certain "panic" happens. I have my personal issues and hangups with DW as a whole, to be honest, so LJ is where I mainly belong.

Well, I will go and subscribe to you there, anyway! I don't really have a preference between LJ and DW, but my friendslist is much busier on DW, while LJ has been growing more and more quiet for me... and unlike DW, it doesn't seem to be attracting any tumblr refugees, either.

It may well be! I am hoping it will prompt fandom to move to a different platform, though. This does happen, too, and I just hope I will be able to actually interact with fandom again.

ETA: Turns out I am already subscribed to you on DW. :-)

Seems like tumblr is now also cracking down on adult stuff, so expect a new influx of fans of all kinds to dw! :)

Yep, that is why the fans are fleeing - truly a classic. And presumably a bad move for tumblr in the long run, business-wise, but I am glad they are making it. :-)
