Let's be other-country-sick together, yes?

I still haven't fully unpacked, and it just keeps getting harder and harder to do it. (Especially since some of the things in boxes still smell like Japan.) I see photos and keepsakes, and I start feeling nostalgic and down. Lauren sent me pics from her Shikoku trip the other day, and all I could think was, "I should be there. I could have been there... but I'm not ( ... )

*hugs indeed*

we met this obnoxious american at our last hostel; he husband was stationed in okinawa (i think it told you this) and i said oh! my friend is in japan- the southern most japanese island- i can't remember the name though. and she kept on insisting that you were in okinawa, but i kept on trying to explain to her that okinawa isn't considered part of the main japanese islands. ack!

most ppl i know think africa is a country. social studies should really be considered an important subject. sheesh.

LOVE!

... i still haven't gotten the books in the mail... i'll do my best to get them in soon though. sorry :(

Yeah, I remember you telling me about that. Culturally, geographically, and almost every other meaningful way, Okinawa is not considered a "main island" by any means.

No worries about the books - I know you're probably busy.

Hugs and love.

Hey Laura, it's Annemarie. I know what you mean. I felt the same way about England when I came back. Where's all that weird candy they sell? Or the way they say certain words that stick with you... I hope you get to spend more time there soon, and that maybe, when you're feeling a little bit nostalgic for NZ, you could bust out in their rugby haka. :) That would be some epic awesome... imitating those hulking, burly men and their war cries to intimidate their opponents. You'd intimidate anyone, I'm sure! Let's catch up sometime?
