I am feeling pretty good about this so far! It's been a hot minute since I've written NaNo (not since 2007, in fact), but I am really enjoying what I have thus far. It's under the cut, if you're interested! I would very, very much appreciate feedback, especially in these early stages. (just please keep in mind this is a draft and is not exactly ( Read more... )

It only took about an hour and some change. Not bad. You can do it! Don't give up, you haven't even started yet!

First-draft-wise? Excellent. I have read finished drafts that were less polished (although, obviously, they were rejected for publication, those were still final drafts rather than first ones).

Oh, that's good. I'm more concerned about whether or not the story is engaging than if it's well-written at this point, but I'm glad nonetheless!

I always feel like I could do better with descriptions. :( I think I could have been more vivid.

The problem is that, if you get TOO vivid, the whole thing becomes really cloying and awful to read. Too much of a good thing, etc.

Yeah, I think I struck a good balance. But sometimes I get carried away with writing and just want to keep going.

i think this is a really great start! i definitely think it's engaging - i'm hooked already and can't wait to see what's next. :D
your writing in the dream sequence is really amazing and i love the details about the painting and everything.
i do think that the dialogue (if you can call it a dialogue) with Vivian and the cat is a little awkward. i mean, i talk to my cat all the time and maybe it sounds just as awkward as this, but idk something just seems a little off about it to me.
still, i do really like the whole bit between the two, especially thinking about the connection between cats/witches/occult and that sort of thing.

I just hit no on the poll but changed my mind. This looks like it could be interesting. Please leave me in the filter, thanks.
