Retreat was good, weather cooperated except that one time... 10 adults, 2 little ones, 1 tarp, 1 huge downpour. Lots of yummy marshmallows and veggie hot dogs and other good food. 2 good rituals. Lots of wasps but amazingly no one was stung ( Read more... )

Who got stung?? I must have missed that... I saw Aaron running away from a wasp with Riley at one point, but I know it didn't get him...

I know it was necessary to trap the wasps, but I just couldn't leave them there to die. After much debating as to the logistics, I eventually managed to release the trap - WITHOUT getting stung (which still amazes me!).

Death tole was about a dozen. Survivors were well over 30!

Next time, I say we just barely coat the bottom of the trap so it's enough to attract but not kill the wasps, and we release them before we leave. Anything less would be disrespectful. After all, it's humans who bring all the food to one place that attracts the wasps in the first place. We are intruding on their habitat, not the other way around.

Of course! I wasn't suggesting otherwise.

What I am suggesting is a way to avoid *any* deaths . . . Catch and release, rather than catch and kill.
