Lessons in Human Nature

I just got out of Psychology of Gender and decided to muse a bit on today's topic. We watched a fantastic video entitled "Blue Eyed." Has anyone seen this? If not, I highly recommend it. It really made me think about the things I, my mother, and my grandmother have gone through ( Read more... )

I love that quote. And your grandmother sounds like she was one hell of a lady. What's appalling to me is that the government feels it has nothing more important to do than butt its nose into the bedrooms of the American people ( ... )

It's one of my bitch button issues too. (I love that phrase, by the way. *grins*)

I mean, if the Christian Right movement wants to get really technical about it than the verses they use (from the Old Testament) are invalid. The way I understand it, God sent his Son to the world as a promise...a promise of everlasting life, love, and tolerance. He promised to love everyone and see no differences between them, as long as they loved Him too. That promise fundamentally changed the way He did business (as in the Old Testament) to the way He is now ( ... )

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm a very liberal Catholic. But I guess that's because I was born and raised in Miami. My parents are rather liberal in their views too. My mother is a moderate Catholic, but she has always taught me, my sister and my brother to be tolerant of other people. My father's Jewish, but he only goes to temple on Rosh Hoshana (sp?) and Yom Kippur. He doesn't keep Kosher, and has always questioned everything. So I suppose I've learned it from them. It really disgusts me that the Christian Right somehow thinks they've the authority to judge. It's like they're putting themselves on the same level as God. And if you go by the Old Testament as they seem to want to, then they're blasphemers and we should stone them. (Wonder how they'd like that interpretation?)

Exactly! I've been exposed to too many bigoted fundamentalists to ever be very trusting of them. I like to question everything too. Of course, I also like to tell people when they're being stupid. I guess I'm somewhat of a smart-ass. :)

Religion has been used time and time again to justify death and violence. I mean, look at the Crusades...

*picks up stone and throws*

It slipped, I swear!

Love the icon, by the way. *chuckle*
