Leave Japanese stuff to companies that do it right.

It's a real pet peeve of mine when mass-market American companies license something Japanese for US release. They always fuck it up, trying to make it reach a market that doesn't care, or else they're simply careless, figuring that the mass market won't care, and the ones who actually WILL buy it are too few to be bothered with

The original material is by Shirow Masamune, the guy responsible for Ghost in the Shell, so whatever might be wrong with it is the fault of those who did the adaptation, not the source material.

Since you can't read the source material, how do you actually know that? Lots of people have only ever produced one really good thing, its not like everything he makes has to be good just because Ghost in the Shell was.

I'm not going to try to defend translations because NA folks often do a truly horrible chop job (especially if they decide they want to aim at children, ugh), but if three seperate groups have all done it badly, maybe its not just them.

He's done more than Ghost in the Shell that I've liked, and the more recent Appleseed was fairly obviously a botched version of a better story--it was broken in Japan. I haven't seen any complaints about the third, Appleseed Ex Machina, apart from my own about translation, so that's only two bad versions.
