On youtube there's a recent video of downtown San Francisco. In it the guy shows all the empty store-fronts where the big name used to be and there's blocks of vacant real estate. The only people on the street are all tourists or perhaps vagrants.
The few stores that are still open have highly visible police manning the doors and there's an "off-duty" trailer parked not far from the stores' entrances where the cops can go for a break or a nap if need be.
I'm beginning to wonder if that's the way all the cities and towns will go and how soon they'll do it....
They start classes a bit later here. Manolo starts on Sept. 11 this year but he has to go in on Friday Sept. 1 to take care of the endless bureaucracy that always rears its ugly head.
Strange as it may seem, this feels like continued fallout from the 2008-2009 Great Recession that many Americans have yet to fully recover from, financially speaking.
Everything is wonderful if you belong to at least the middle area of the middle class or above and you have a good job. But....these days even the lower middle class is feeling like they are on shaky ground. Nobody has any savings any more or if they do, they did it by being incredibly pinch-penny for years.

There's a silver lining though.
All the people who put off going to college "for a while" should now find it a lot easier to get into a good school now.

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case where you are.
Problem is, how America fares is often how the rest of the world fares as well. This winter is going to be a rough one, I'm afraid.
How soon will Manolo's classes begin again? My own darling has been back in school for over a week now.

I see a lot of chains closing up shop and even smaller businesses. Things are not as rosy as some would have us believe...
