I have to say, I've worried about the assassination thing, too. I'm not sure they'd even wait to see him elected; see "Bobby Kennedy." But I know one sure fire way to keep him alive. There's only one person hated more by the sort of person who'd assassinate Obama: Hillary. :) If she's his running mate, he might be a lot safer. they'd never risk putting her in office.

Watching Obama's candidacy has been kinda eerie. There's a graphic novel called Eagle that's about the first non-white presidential candidate who looks likely to win. Kinda prophetic in some ways. I need to read it again...
