Cracking Dissonance.

In February I went to the Scottish LibDems' spring (and, more importantly, pre-Holyrood election) conference. There are always many debates; usually there is little contentious - the motions tends to be no-brainers, with little dissent - but there three or four this time which I found challenging, and I ended up voting against my natural position. I have no problem with rural communities paying more for services that are more expensive to provide to dispersed distant locations.

I have to put up with traffic congestion and neighbours in exchange for cheaper utilities and culture.

A mix of local revenue raising measures would be good. I'd support even more local taxation with local taxes flowing up to broader areas of local or central government rather than central taxes flowing down.

Mixed feelings about quotas.

Evidence based policy for the win. Gas beats coal on global warming grounds by about 2 to 1.
