A little back story before I begin this post proper. The youngest of my 3 elder brothers is a preacher, and thus my family's pastor. The go to guy in the family if you have any questions relating to God, but I digress. forgive me for my remarks, but cooking vegetables nullifies the whole fresh requirement. Technically, they need to be raw, wouldn't they?

Yes, that's true to some extent. A good portion of the original nutritional benefit of vegetables and fruits are lost during the cooking process. A raw food diet is the best way to insure you reap all the benefits of the fresh foods you are eating, BUT in the end, it's still a healthier choice to eat a cooked black bean patty than a hamburger from McDonald's. And the majority of my meals contain raw vegetables, e.g. salads, fruit salads.

But in answer to your question, no, I don't think the focus should be on the "fresh" factor, as several books on the diet suggest one may use fresh, canned, or frozen items, which all have effect on nutrition content. The important factor in the diet is the sacrifice, the conscious process of limiting ones self to a strict diet to connect closer to God.

Mad props to you for taking this on. I just got done with 2 weeks on a fasting diet while doing a detox. You'll be amazed - with both the physical differences and the spiritual cleanse you truly do get with this type of fast.

And in response to the other comment, yes.. the most nutritional way to enjoy your veggies ARE raw. :)

Right on, now your colon is as clean as a whistle...or clarinet even! Spiritual cleanse huh? Have you finally managed to open that elusive third "Brown eye?" :)
