Every time I go to my G.P. (every 6 months for a pill check), I get told off for having put on more weight. So every 6 months, I decide to try and be more healthy. It lasts about a week. This is that time. It helps me to write it all down, so you must all suffer ( Read more... )

Re: the cereal, well, I do oatmeal. With stuff, because oatmeal by itself is disgusting. I'm currently eating oatmeal with raisins, nuts, and dates in it; the last box had flaxseed and cranberries. I throw in some cinnamon, and I use (2%) milk instead of water - oatmeal with water is nasty.

Probably too late, but stay away from movie theater butter!

Good luck!

I did manage to stay away from the popcorn! I'll try the oatmeal.

Thanks.

Why does it have to be cereals? Why not just try bread for breakfast? Some whole-grain stuff. Maybe with honey, or turkey breast (very low fat), whatever you like...

I don't know why I didn't think of that. Toast tastes so nice!
Thanks :)

considering the insurance industry developed the BMI, it's not really an accurate indicator of "health". I'd recommend watching this: http://kateharding.net/bmi-illustrated/
Fantastic vid to show just how ridiculous the BMI actually is. Also, look up "health at Every Size" stuff. I have a couple of friends who are skinnier than a rail and get sick often, and friends who are BIG people yet ride 50 and 100 mile bicycle rides.

As a side note though, my weight DID reduce a little and stabilize when I quit drinking pepsi, and I went through a LOT of it a day. It was the hardest thing to do, and I went cold turkey. Now I just have an occasional Coke with dinner when we're out (especially Mexican food). Alternately, tea keeps your caffiene intake while having less than half the sugar, and even better if you can drink it unsweetened. Hope all that helps, and remember your friends love you no matter what!

btw, I hate most normal breakfast food, especially eggs. I have a light sandwich, tasty vitamin-full muffins, or sometimes a salad for breakfast. I make sure to always have protein though so my blood sugar doesn't bottom out.

A local bakery makes the most incredible muffins here, called Morning Glory Muffins. They're like... unfrosted rich carrot cake. Divine! and they're actually vegan somehow.

LOL! That was a great slideshow. Thanks, I feel much better now.

I will try and stay off the coke. Maybe tea with sweetners?

you know about the coke thing. I used to think the same...I absolutely hated the light and zero stuff! disgusting!!!
then I went to the US and realized how easily I can gain lots of pounds just by eating the wrong stuff and trying out all the new, exiting, fat food *g* and I switched to pepsi light (which in my opinion tastes better than coke light). It's a problem of habits. Now, six months later I love the light stuff as much and the real thing and can drink coke light and zero as well.
If you really only drink it for the caffeine, light will do. And if you try out just drinking light products for a few weeks, even if you don't really like them, you'll get used to them :)

Hmm it's not just the caffiene, it's the taste. I don't went to "get used" to something that doesn't taste nice! :D I might have to switch to tea.
