First Final.

Sep 21, 2007 01:32

I don't understand why every person to whom I've confessed my fears of failing my first final responds with platitudes. "I'm sure you'll do fine." "Look at how much you've studied; you'll do great." I don't consider myself to be the type of person who complains about tests in order to fish for compliments. If I say that I'm worried about an ( Read more... )

Medical school is hard. If all it took were decent brains and the ability to kinda study, they'd be flooded with people. But that's not all it takes. Does that mean I don't think you have what it takes to cut it? No. I think you have it in you to pull it together and make this work. But it also means I understand - I expect - you to stumble sometimes. You probably will fail a quiz or test or two, but so long as you do eventually master what you need to know to pursue your goal to the best of your ability, what does one quiz or test matter?

That's still no excuse to completely slack off, so no going off to strip clubs and stuff the nights before your finals, you hear? *G*

Thank you. :) I'll try to cut down on my strip club visits, but only because you said so.

Good. 'Cos I know it's important to study anatomy and all, but you're supposed to be focusing on the REAL stuff, not the plastic.

It's still okay for me to do all that cocaine and heroin, right? That won't interfere with my studies.

Of course it's okay if you fail. Med school is really hard.

The key to my success as a doctor?

I mean, stupid medical school, thinks it's so tough. I'll show it! I'll punch it in the face, next time it opens its big mouth.

i just believe that you can do it.
if you fail...that's only once. it's not the end of the world. ^_^
(i didn't mean to imply i had high expectations either. i just assumed this is something you want quite badly. and everyone knows if you want something bad enough...you'll do it no matter what happens. so...sorry. :/ )

Luckily, I didn't fail. :)

And you don't have to apologize. I wasn't actually expecting to talk about my fears of failing in the middle of the chat. I just felt like complaining.

It's okay if you don't do as well as you'd hoped. The first exam is difficult because you don't know what the professor's testing style is yet. I have two exams coming up this week myself, and I'm going to try my best, but since I don't know what to expect just yet there's no sense in beating myself up if I do poorly. Unfortunately a significant number of my classmates seem to lack common sense (at NYU, whodathunk!) so I may end up at the peak of the curve anyway.

That being said, your musculoskeletal block is next. When do you want me to come over with an atlas so we can study together? Next friday seems to be good with me. :)

See, it wasn't just an exam. It was a final. It was my second and last chance at doing well in this block. And now it's over. Oh well.

Come over whenever you want. Friday sounds good to me. Which atlas do you have?

I have four!

There's Netter's "Atlas of Human Anatomy" (illustrations), Stone and Stone's "Atlas of Skeletal Muscles" (models), Clemente's "Regional Atlas of Human Anatomy", and Rohen, Yokochi, and Lutjen-Drecoll's "Color Atlas of Anatomy" (cadaver photos!). Plus my text book of "Clinically Oriented Anatomy" by Moore and Dalley. Fun stuff!

You have the Color Atlas of Anatomy? I love you so much! I have the Netters and the Moore and Dalley, as well as Netters-based flashcards. But I didn't buy the Color Atlas, and was sort of regretting it.
