“I’m scared.”
A soft murmur beside him catches his ears and leads Nichkhun to take a look at his soon-to-be wife. They are in front of the altar, hands holding tight on each other, and he counts the last seconds her hold becomes too strong on him.
“What are you scared of?” He whispers back, his eyes are now looking at hers, pleading with confusion and anxiety.
You won’t slip away from me anymore, Victoria. Not this time. After what we’ve been through, and now that we’re already here.
The silence between them allows him to hear her gulping, causing the anxiety within him to grow within the passing seconds. “You’re not answering--”
“Just.. What if..” She cuts him off. Squeezing his hand, she can’t find the strength to continue her words.
Nichkhun sighs. He already knows that she’s being strange lately, and it is his fault to not mention about it those numerous times (for he is so scared that she’ll back off, and now that he’s finally facing it he regrets that he didn’t do this earlier). He waits for her answer, heart clenched and he’s expecting it to be bursting anytime soon. “What if what, honey?”
She bits her bottom lip, unsure if she has to continue talking or not, considering the priest is staring at them awkwardly, and not to mention the hushed whispers behind them asking what's exactly happening between them.
“What if we fail, Nichkhun?” She bravely lifts her head to look at him at last, her eyes clouded with tears.
Nichkhun closes his eyes for a while hearing the question, though a soft smile escapes his lips a moment later. Turning himself to face the woman he treasures the most in his dear life, he could see all the hesitation that glued with fear battling in her eyes.
He lets out a sigh. It is true that he won’t force her to marry him if she doesn’t want to, but damn he will be miserable if he didn’t even try to convince her one more time.
“We won't.” He cups her cheek softly before planting a tender kiss on her lips. “I won’t let us fail. I love you and I promise that your happiness is safe with me.”
He looks at her one more time, smiling when he finds that fear in her eyes has gradually been replaced with warmth and acceptance.
“You can trust me, Victoria. We’ll be just fine.” He winks before adding, “If not perfectly happy.”
And just like that, Victoria considers herself a fool for being so afraid at what she shouldn’t be. For the first time after her sleepless nights this month, she’s finally sure that she is walking on the right path.
“Shall we begin then?”
She nods at the priest before stealing another glance at Nichkhun who looks at her back with so much love and understanding, feeling all grateful that she has been given someone whom she can trust to for the rest of her life.
It's been a while since I wrote the last khuntoria fic. Damn I miss this couple too much ;A;
Though this is short, but I hope it brings you a smile,
