Last night was one of the proudest nights of my life. Stephen and I were sitting on the couch talking after tucking Lucia into bed when I heard a little noise, kind of like a stifled giggle. I turned off all the lights, and sure enough, there was a very faint light coming from underneath her door

i love seeing you both adapting so well. of course it's all still new, and you haven't crossed the threshold of being here longer than you've ever been for just a visit on a vacation somewhere... but i'll be here for both of you for when that day comes.

i'm so proud of lu and her newfound skill of parental defiance. i'm telling you, she's going to eclipse you a lot faster than you think ;). she already outsmarted me into making the kinds of pancakes she wanted.

It'll probably be not long after her birthday. Then there will be upcoming snow and Christmas to look forward to, so we might not reach that threshold till after the new year. But I'm damn glad we can rely on your support, whenever it will be.

Figures that while I'm proud of her cerebral leanings, you're proud of her rebellion. Or is that her individuality? Okay, yes, I'm proud of that, too. I would say that you're easier to outsmart than me, but... dammit.

That's such a great story that you went in and your kid was reading. I'd be proud too. She likes to read so much that she does it after she was supposed to be in bed. You did something right.
