the fluttering of birds at daybreak, sun carried on a flurry of wings, perched on the balcony railing, on the balcony chairs; a pale and lambent light, a warbling song. cardinals, finches, and doves stir but do not unsettle the stillness of early morning, early summer. in these hours, the incipient heat is all gentleness, all soft and humid ( Read more... )

Wow, I had almost forgotten, it's been so long. :-) This was wonderful, as always. And a good reminder that I should show your writing to more people. :-)

maybe getting away for a little while is just what you need. we'll have a party! a very quiet, noneventful, lying-on-the-couch party. :)

so I'm going to be in New Jersey and NYC in September. does this enable me, somehow, to meet you? I'd love that.

yes, possibly! if you can find a way to get from new jersey/new york to my suburb north of baltimore (my driving radius is, unfortunately, rather small these days), and if you don't mind the fact that i can't do much other than lie about and talk, at least for now. (it's also pertinent to mention that all plans are at the mercy of my bodily health, which sometimes deteriorates rapidly, without warning, and leaves me unable even to lie about and talk!) also, my living situation at the end of the summer is up in the air, and i may be in a period of transition/resettling/working things out in the months of august and september, during which a meeting may not be possible. but assuming all those details end up being ok, then yes, that would be quite nice. :)

that sounds lovely, if it were possible... keep in touch. do you know how long it takes to public transpo that?

sorry for taking so long to respond -- my computer broke, and the repairs took much longer than i expected.

i believe catching an amtrak train from NYC to baltimore's penn station takes 2-3 hours, depending on the train. the light rail trip from penn station to lutherville (the stop nearest me, to which i can easily drive) takes an additional 30 minutes or so. it would be a bit of a trek, but i'd like it if we could perhaps make it work. here's hoping!
