These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, and italicize the ones you own but have not read.

Dang, I think I've read only five of them to the end and parts of three others. Don't think I own any that I haven't read even in part.

I've read maybe about ten of those, and some of those I only got halfway through (Catch-22 is one of those).

You reminded me that I really want to read The Picture of Dorian Grey and Lolita.

The Scarlet Letter is, unfortunately, required reading material in the Metro Davidson County public school system. So I had to read that dreadful thing in the 11th grade. There's a photo of me in English class dressed as Hester Pryne for some kind of group presentation. I should find it and scan it sometime.

To me, TPoDG was boring for about the first half, when it was dominated by Lord Henry Whooton saying typical Wilde aphorisms and not much else was going on. Then the fantasy began, and it got interesting.

But I was 17 at the time, so my impression today might be quite different.

I dunno, it might be up my alley. I have a friend that read it in high school and loved it and we like most of the same things (pertaining to literature anyway).
