Betty Blue must indeed still be popular, it is available through Netflix (3.8 stars of 5!) I saw a review posted that cautioned against the dubbed version, so I was happy to see sub-titles available. Now you have me curious...

i remember hearing about betty blue years ago, though don't think i've ever seen it. now i'm curious too :)

i've heard of the german foen (not sure of spelling) that depresses people - i wonder if it is the same as your Le Marin.

i don't know if you're around these days, but i posted a french language question (i'm trying to learn french in preparation for visiting france in september), and you seem to be the only person on my f'list that might know the answer... ;O)
