Story Behind Not Giving Up

May 04, 2012 19:34

This summer I am going to be working on a project. That project is Not Giving Up, a series about Michael Ryder. I will be explaining it today if anyone is interested in doing the art work for me. Here are the updates towards it. I am doing two posts: one on blogger that is non slash and one on here that is slash.

STORY BEHIND THIS FAN FIC
I have been wanting to write a fan fic about Michael Ryder for a long time. When he signed with the Dallas Stars this summer, I was excited and the writing spark came to me immediately. I have been following his career since he was rookie with the Montreal Canadiens. He was awesome and he had the heart that most players had.
The title of my story and behind the whole reason why I wanted to write this. I found a quote on the internet thanks to my friend Lora helping me find this quote.  "Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts.” I was looking for inspiration when it came time to give this a name and that stood out to me as one of the most profound ways to not give up on your dreams when the days are tough.
Ryder never gave up on his dreams on his career. He never gave up when the times were hard when he wanted to. His story was an inspirational to write about. Honestly I am writing for Inside Hockey and want to write an article about him. But for right now, I want to write this fan fic besides the other parts of writing. I used to have people wanting me to give up on writing but I haven’t yet. I am not going to give up on my dreams so why should you.
GENERAL BACKGROUND
I have been looking at many ideas for this story. I also will give a background of Michael Ryder and his career stats. I have been writing them for weeks now.
Ryder’s parents are Debbie & Wayne. He has a younger brother Daniel and sister Susan. He was born in a St. Johns Newfoundland but was raised in Bonavista, Newfoundland. So he comes from a small hockey town. His grandparents are Doris and Melv Franke…Great grandma is Annie Franke.
He has played for the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins before signing with the Dallas Stars on July 1st, 2011.
IDEAS
Michael Ryder reflects on his life with his lover Brenden Morrow.
-flashbacks (from the past to present time)
-his past relationships with Saku Koivu and Marc Savard to his present relationship with Brenden Morrow
-telling his parents about him being gay
-games and practice meetings
-home town visits
-to people in his hometown egging his house and car bombing his car.
-him winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in his career with the Boston Bruins
-had issues with Guy Carbonneau in Montreal but always got along with Claude Julien and Glen Gulutzan.
MUSIC
Music wasn’t that hard of a choice for me to pick out but I had a few that made so much sense when writing this fic.
The Climb by Miley Cyrus. Her song means “Never giving up on your dreams!” I think this song basically speaks about wanting to reach our hopes & dreams in life. Although we may face obstacles in life, it's all about how we learn from our experiences & the good life skills we can take from them. In conclusion, as long as we never give up faith, we will reach our goals. It had the special meaning towards what I wanted in the fic.
I also found the song “Someday” by Rob Thomas and his meaning towards this song is about hope even if right now you feel lost and scared, someday it's bound to get better. To me, it's about wanting to start something over again and do it right and maybe this time everything will be okay.
I also found three songs by a singer named Sia “Breathe Me”, “My Love” and “Don’t Bring Me Down” Those songs somehow fit into the series but like I said my music broaden when I was writing this story but The Climb is an important song to the story cause of the meaning towards. I didn’t mind who the singer was cause the song was fabulous and had the meaning behind this entire series.
DEDICATION
Normally I never do dedications for a fan fiction but it goes to all the people who are struggling to find themselves. To those who are wanting a second chance. To those who want to know they are the best. To those who don’t give up when life hasn’t gotten. Try your best and don't give up when life is hard.
I am writing this story to prove that dreams can come true. Like from Meet The Robinsons “Keep Moving Forward. Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Just keep moving forward despite all the hardships you have went through. Don’t give up.
PAIRINGS
-Ryder/Savard; Ryder/Koivu (Past)
-Ryder/Morrow (Present)
RYDER AND HIS BROTHER DANIEL
Michael Ryder can’t remember when he got the call. Might have been on the way to the rink. Could have come in the locker room. Even now, it’s all a blur. It’s Daniel. He’s been arrested. Armed Robbery. Or something like that. Ryder can’t remember the details. He just remembers getting the news about his brother back in his hometown and him almost committing suicide before Morrow stops him from doing it.
