I wonder what they'd say if you explained that the nettle was introduced to this country (by the Romans I believe) as a farm crop.
The young shoots of the nettle are a very tasty vegetable and the juice/sap is a useful treatment for burns.
The mature plant produces a fibre not disimilar to flax and nettle was used for making a fabric similar to linen in the not too distant past - hence why some folk tales talk about nettle shirts. It was a popular crop because the worse the soil you plant it in, the better the fibre. I believe it is still farmed for such in some scandinavian countries which don't have the correct conditions for growing flax.
I did a big of sell on nettle tea being healthy, which only made it worse. I drink because it taste nice, still nice bit on info there which I will hand out at work tomorrow, not sure it will stop them thinking I'm odd for drinking it :(

No I will let you have cup next time you pop round, tastes mainly of blackberrys, but then again I don't chew nettles often so not sure if it taste of nettles
My suggestions for dealing with those poking fun at you goes as follows:
“does it sting the mouth” - Axe to the mouth
“do you have to drink dock leaf tea afterwards” - Axe to the skull
“are you suffering from strange ailment” Axe to the spine
The moral is that applied violence doesn't solve many of the problems it causes, but it can solve a lot of problems it didn't cause. Also, axes are cool!
I could try a latex axe, but I think they would find more it more taking the mickey out of my Larp hobby than tea, and real axe may get me in bother. Still useful advice for a serial killer axe murderer who like nettle tea.
