The nominations for the British Comedy Awards are out. Here's the full list with my preferred choices in bold type:

Best TV Comedy: The Office, Little Britain, Nighty Night

Best New TV Comedy: Doc Martin, Life Begins, Nighty Night (although how they can carry on the series and why "The Mighty Boosh" wasn't nominated is a mystery)

Shame on you for having never seen Curb Your Enthusiasm. Redeem yourself by purchasing the DVDs immediately!

This is fab news, I thought Noel and Julian's show had come to terrestrial too late to be eligible but no, hurrah!

Though, they have been in 'the biz' for getting on for 10 years... now New is that?

So My Choices are...(in order of the categories)

Nighty Night (if the office wins again i'll go spare). Nighty night again, all the others are shite. Woss. HIGNFY (for it's the only one i can bare to watch). Shameless (see previous). Matt and Dave (I suppose). The Divine Ms Davis. Julian and Noel (obviously)Curb Your Enthusiasm (like to see the more fringey show win. and Shaun of the Dead. because it's dead good.

Am I the only one being cynical, in that they might have nominated both Julia and Julian so they don't need to invite them "Plus one" as they'd have only brought each other anyway?

Yeah, I think for "New" instead read "Only heard of by most people just recently". Didn't David Walliams win best newcomer last year?

I think that's why many awards ceremonies have renamed "newcomer" awards to "breakthrough act", just to stop people going "well actually, their first appearence was in nineteen ninety three where...".
