Whoa there! Cocky arsehole? Average comedy show? A little harsh methinks... I'm not the guy's biggest fan but I can't deny just how darn good The Office was. As far as I can tell, he worked bloody hard to get where he is today and I can't blame him for taking up an offer like this one. The Flanimals book looks like the kind of thing I would have loved as a child!

Each to their own. In my opinion though, I think he's totally under-rated and find it hard to believe that everyone is now loving him when no-one really liked him that much when he did "The 11 O'Clock Show".

i'm afraid it's just the way the cookie crumbles.

but hey. richard kelly's first film was donnie darko, the response to that led to him being allowed to do a director's cut within three years.

NOBODY gets to do that. it's just grabbing the opportunities that are given to you. ricky gervais is popular now, but look at jim davidson. 10 years ago he was probably as popular as gervais is now, but today he's telling racist jokes to ex-pats in dubai. i'd do exactly what ricky gervais is doing and exploit it for everything i could. the money would just go to create some other godawful film anyway.

I know you are not moaning at him taking the opportunities, just bitching about how someone can get offers for so many things when they are not that great.

First series of The Office was amusing (not great!), the second series....well the less said about that sorry excuse for tv the better. There was about two laughs in it. The whole idea of a "mock-fly on the wall documentary" was done sometime before (and much better) by Peter Kay.

Why is Gervais being commisioned for everythin. So they think he is good at a sit-com. This doesn't mean he is good a stand-up or writing or what ever other pie he has his fingers in.

I'm with you on this one!
