((A. Action, early morning, 1124 Taylor Road; limited to anyone within earshot.))

[Three things were wrong when Thor woke up this morning. One: He was not in Bilskirnir, where he distinctly remembered having fallen asleep. Two: The woman sleeping on his left was not his wife. Three: The bedstand to his right most definitely did not have a hammer ( Read more... )

[Have a very, very startled Kotomi! Squealing = get.]

Ah! S-Sir! P-P-Please put that car down! D-don't...don't...

[What the hell, what is a child doing here? Thor tightens his grip on the fender.]

A battleground is no place for children! Away with you, and leave me to the destruction of this monster!

I-I am adult. I am eighteen years of age, sir!

And it's not a monster. It's--it's a vehicle for human transportation...

[Ohhhh what has she gotten herself into?]

A what? [Thor looks at the car with a frown.] You lie! This is no chariot!

[She takes a tiny step forward.]

It is called a "car." [Guessing by his manner of speaking, she's assuming he's from far in the past. So she's going to try and explain it simply.]

C-Cars are...a very, very advanced form of a chariot. Instead of a cart being pulled by an animal, there is a type of metal on the inside that is powered by a liquid. It runs by itself.

N-Now please, sir. Put it down? There are people on the inside, and they will get hurt very badly if you continue.

[That explanation didn't make a lot of sense to Thor. But the point came through: That there are people inside the chariot-thing. And they are apparently there of their own will, and not somehow in the monster's thrall. Huh.

Thor gives them a lingering glare, then grudgingly lets go of the car.]

I meant them no harm. [He turns back to Kotomi.] Do I find myself in some strange corner of Midgard, then?

[She gives him a teensy smile, if only to thank him for letting go of the car.]

You're in a town called "Mayfield," sir.

[He's been hearing that word. It still doesn't make much sense to him. This place looks nothing like a field.]

And what way to the sea from here? [That should help him get his bearings.]

There doesn't appear to be a sea in this town. If you try and exit, you will loop around from the other side. [Frown-frown and...desperately hoping this doesn't make him mad again.]

I-I'm sorry, sir. You are not the only one who is very frustrated at being here.

It is a prison, then! [He looks very angry about this. Thankfully, it's not directed right at her this time.]

Then where are the jailers? Surely they have hold of my hammer!

The...the most likely suspects are Officer Grady and the mayor, though...I don't know where you can reach them.

They can sometimes be seen around town, though.

[Nervously adding] A-And you can regain your hammer at the post office. You'll have to give something in exchange, though.

[She flinches.]

Um, I know it is frustrating, sir. B-But those are the rules I've learned, and I'm only repeating them for your benefit.

[Thor makes a genuine effort at containing his anger. The anger doesn't leave his voice - but it's no longer directed at her. Chivalry.]

What ransom would they ask, then?
