Am on holiday in Madeira. Has rained every day until now. Not pitter patter rain, but torrential downpours which cause trees to fall into the road, giant boulders to roll down the mountain and block the motorways and landslides which carry the coastal road clearaway down the mountain. I've been locked in a council office and Highgate Cemetery in my time and found it very instructive on the nature of prison. It's the knowledge that you can't get out that's the thing - horrible, even in beautiful art deco surroundings (or, say, Portmeirion).
Did I mention not to get washed away?
