Regarding the weekend of 6 August 2005.

If anyone can come up with a method cheaper than £88 to get from London to Durham in less than 5 hours in the morning, and back again the next day in the evening, then I'd like to hear about it real soon.

Buy an annual gold card. You might as well, it's cheaper than anything else you might do if you're going to travel in London every day, and you're selling enough houses to pay off the debt with. Then buy the ticket for £88-30%=£61.60. In fact, you're allowed to sell them back if you don't want them any more and I'm not certain you lose anything for doing so, maybe you could get a gold card and only keep it for three days?

Alternatively, skive off the Friday by feigning illness and take this train:

Gold card discounts don't go as far as Durham. They only cover SE England.
