  1. big cat:
I had worked with Big Cat a couple of times before, just in small shows at university, so when the opportunity came to do a big budget production with her at the Edinburgh Festival I leapt at the chance. She was brilliant, and out comeback tour of The Cat Must Die was marred only by a vicious assault on her person which left her blind in one eye. As I understand it, she is now living with Big Monkey and is fully retired from professional work.
  2. booze:
This has been something of an obsession since I first encountered it properly in 1996. My favourites have changed throughout the years - white wine, red wine, whiskey and soda - but my love for booze remains constant.
  3. cereal:
I've been eating cereal since I had teeth, and I intend to eat it for the rest of my life. Shreddies are probably my favourite food in the world, either them or Bran Flakes. I take my cereal like I take my women: with skimmed milk and no sugar.
  4. fun:
I have always enjoyed having fun. Whilst being brainwashed by militant Christians in Nashville in 1997 we were told to "Defer pleasure in the pursuit of success". I immediately determined to do the exact opposite. I have never had much respect for authority.
  5. kissing donkeys noses:
This is less an interest, more an aspiration.
  6. marmite:
I rarely travel abroad without marmite. In Brazil, Olivia and I consumed an entire double-sized jar in less than five days, and then spent the remaining five days with hunger pangs. Marmite is a splendid food.
  7. stuff:
I first became interested in stuff when I opened my eyes after leaving my mother's womb. The fascination has remained.
  8. toast:
I cannot get enough of toast. At university we had toast eating competitions, and would often get through entire loaves in the process. Although I sometimes relish a nice slice of processed white, smeared with butter and strawberry jam, my absolute favourite is a slice of thick, wholemeal seed bread nice and toasted on both sides and doused in flora and a really tart marmalade.
  9. toast and marmite:
After discovering toast in 1979, and then marmite in 1996, it was only a matter of time before I put the two together: around 20 seconds, in fact.
