Agreed. But the writers REALLY blur the lines, especially with the Leoben dialogs.

I was responding more to AI in general than to BSG. Sci Fi has no steadfast "rules", so I can accept a machine that is evolved enough to have feelings.
I think that this "other" race that was found on Earth is going to be very important. I wonder if the humans aren't another race's Cylons. Or maybe the religious overtones are going to allude divine creation. Can't wait to see where they take it.

as humans, we're pretty biased to dismiss intelligence without feelings. we are also quick to give rights to something with feelings that may not have a high intellect. if a being can have their own thought, it should be deemed sentient, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentience, and have rights. albeit, the trick would be the proving the thought was it's own and not an imitation based on algorithms. though, you can argue that our thoughts and "feelings" are algorithms based on the constructs of our early development.

this discussion is quickly calling for beer drinking to accurately be assessed. :)
