I'm with ya brother. But I gotta tell ya, (and this is my hard life lesson), community, improvement, good news, inclusion, happiness, love; all these things are made. They seldom happen. The best of these are self made. Peace is not a right or privilege, they must be worked. Cheerleader likes to say, "If love and compassion were easy, more people would do it". Shall we join the path of greatest resistance?

Some of the best advice I ever heard about helping kids to tolerate all of the bad news that's thrown at them came from Mr. Rogers (actually Mr. Rogers' mom). After the September 11th attacks I saw an interview with him where he said his mom had told him that with every tragedy, every bit of bad news that you see, you should always look for the helpers. That they are always there. People who are helping not because they HAVE to but because they want to. It's a good way to find positive in the worst of situations.

As for being more positive in your own life. I have to say Goinstyle is absolutely right. That is the stuff you create. Sometimes being happy is as simple as just deciding you are going to be. It's not always easy, but it's definitely possible!

I must say, your wife must be rubbing off onto you...she is the most happy and positive person I know. You are fortunate and made a wise choice when you married her. You are more optimistic than you think. Over this past year you have managed to help my sad, skinny self find the good as I navigate my way out of the clusterfuck. Even if it's handing me a beer or making sure I eat before I drink too many shots of tequila...that's being a helper on this road of life. Thank you my friend, and keep shining it up. It will be contagious.
