Yeah, it was hard to write, too, but I still believe and did then, even staying within the scope of canon, that maybe Jack had got through at that last confrontation, and maybe some little breakthrough had been made. If only... Thank you.

This beautiful piece brought tears to my eyes. So well written! If this is what Ennis was thinking (and I want to believe that he did), the story is even more devastatingly tragic... with this piece you bring yet another dimension to it.

and thank you. Yes, I also wanted to think that Ennis would have thought this (obviously, huh?), and yeah, hoping not to sound like I'm praising my own work, it did actually make it that much more tragic for me, too, in the irony.

Beautifully crafted, Rick. I don't see why it couldn't have happened this way exactly for Ennis- who knows?.

Even if Ennis had come to this place, we know what happened while he was waiting to hear from Jack. I found it almost unbearably ironic and sad when I wrote it. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks so much for you comment.
