Final updates, and then the important stuff

My last adventure happened today, as I went out with Lynne (the herbalist who lives on the Gilbertsons' property) and Jill (her friend from Wisconsin) and their boyfriends. We went to the Hare Krishna center for dinner, which not only meant cheap food and chanting, but a talk and debate with a Swami that, needless to say, I got involved in. It was ( Read more... )

I thought I'd be all clever and post what the Apollo 13 astronauts said right before their radio transmissions were cut off by the moon, but it turns out to be several short sentences interspersed with communications from Houston, so that really wouldn't have worked.

To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom. It is not the part of men, but of fanatics, or of mathematicians, if you will, to say, that, the shortness of life considered, it is not worth caring whether for so short a duration we were sprawling in want, or sitting high. Since our office is with moments, let us husband them.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm usually not a fan of Emerson, but I'm not gifted in words and I wanted something profound. I'm really happy that you're coming home, we all are. It's too bad that Mordor and King Kong didn't work out (you would have made a fantastic Jack Black stand in), but I'm sure all the things that did work out, or didn't but led to other cooler things, make up for that.

So, godspeed, Mr. Rick. See you in a few days. Come to Walgreen's for unbelievable prices on film processing! or to say hi. You know, whatever.

Thanks for the reminder of how good this has really been. I'm so focused on home now, and seeing all of you, that I've been tending to forget why I came and the good it did me. I have had a grand adventure, but am not sad about ending it. See you in a couple days!
