Do you know the author and/or title of a story about the real-world police being called to investigate a theft in an MMO, that turns into a murder mystery?

It's a good book, but kind of exists to justify the amusingly ludicrous heist scene (the dragon "brought along for fire support"). Occasionally Stross just can't cut one of his more precious bits of writing. Like the smuggled poultry Maguffin I was reading about just last night, the "plot capon."

Not the story you're thinking of, but try Night Mayor by Kim Newman. It's pre-MMO but a similar concept. Also, if you haven't read Dream Park by Niven et al., you should. It's a mystery set during a LARP. Damn good.
