My laptop is kind of broken... one of the hinges cracked, and I haven't applied the superglue yet. Amusingly but conveniently, it's cracked in the "open" position, because the hinge has too much resistance to turn without the lever arm of the rest of the laptop, which is, I guess, important for keeping the screen up.

This is remarkably annoying.

What laptop is this? Is it still under warranty?

Thinkpad T43p (last model before they went to Lenovo)
I got it 3 years ago... is it still under warranty?

Also, it's my primary computer, so sending it out might be a bit annoying for reasons like that...

Heh, my hinge broke, but it still works? Just very poorly.

When this happened to me last year, I just took it apart to see if I could fix it, and ended up pretty much taking the hinge out entirely. It turned out that just the other hinge held it up well enough, as long as it was roughly vertical.
