Disability Compensation

I used a wheelchair when I broke my leg, while I was out of town on business at a huge resort/conference center that would have taken days to cross on my crutches. The world really looks different from a wheelchair, or on crutches. Congrats on the muscles. I know they are hard-won!

It's amazing how some people are very helpful, and some people are really rude, even without trying to be. They see a wheelchair coming toward them and stop right in front of you, waiting for you to go around them. When I was in a grocery store a few months ago, one lady did that to me three times in less than ten minutes, apparently without even realizing she was being really thoughtless. Contrarily, a few weeks ago a kid of about 12 was in line in front of me at the checkout and asked if he could help me, without even being prodded by a parent. There are still parents out there teaching manners, thank goodness.

Yes! I noticed people were either great or awful, not much in between. And I wasn't so sure they were awful on accident.

Elevators seemed to bring out the worst in people. They'd dodge in front of me to get in first, and then not hold the door etc. They were horrible.
