Stuff for Dave-Chan
Right then. I've been making a couple of lists based on Phoenix Guard and Archery. Here's what I got:
Defensive Phoenix Guard Combat - High Elves Army
1 * Noble @ 139 Pts
General; Great Weapon; Dragon Armour
Reaver Bow [40]
1 Noble @ 144 Pts
Lore of Beasts; Great Weapon; Dragon Armour
Radiant Gem of Hoeth [45]
1: Ursos the Bears Anger [0]
15 Archers @ 165 Pts
Longbow
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower @ 100 Pts
2 Crew @ [0] Pts
Light Armour
13 Phoenix Guard @ 265 Pts
Halberd; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
1 Keeper of the Flame @ [37] Pts
Foe Bane [25]
9 Swordmasters @ 180 Pts
Great Weapon; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
1 Bladelord @ [12] Pts
Total Army Cost: 993
This one is pretty nice because it has flexibility to go on the attack if need be. Archers can be deployed either Napoleonic style (to allow an easier counter-charge for your swordmasters) or old English style (to recieve a charge after thinning the opponents out with firepower, leaving firebase intact). Includes an archer hero who is lethal at range. Shooting priorities are "OH GOD LIGHT CAVALRIES" and light infantry, as taking them on is almost a waste of your melee's mighty, crushing attacks. That dude with the radiant gem should always, always have Ursos up and hand with the phoenixguard. Keeper of the flame should challenge in combat whenever possible.
Superdefensive Phoenix Guard Magic - High Elves Army
1 Mage @ 150 Pts
Magic Level 2; Lore of Fire
Jewel of the Dusk [15]
1 Mage @ 175 Pts
Magic Level 2; Lore of High Magic
Ring of Fury [40]
14 Archers @ 154 Pts
Longbow
18 Phoenix Guard @ 315 Pts
Halberd; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
1 Keeper of the Flame @ [12] Pts
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower @ 100 Pts
2 Crew @ [0] Pts
Light Armour
5 Ellyrian Reavers @ 102 Pts
Bow (swap); Light Armour; Musician
5 Elf Steed @ [0] Pts
Total Army Cost: 996
This one is much more defensive and static. It sacrifices the swordmasters for incredible magic output and defenses, and superior high elven light cavalry to dance the opponent's units around. I personally don't like to use this sort of list because of the unreliability of magic these days, though it is perfectly valid. Again, get rid of the enemy light cavalry, blast massive holes out of their heavy infantry, cause panic, and take the remainder of the troops kung fu style with the phoenix guard. Can be a hard list to use because of only one unit block, no hammer units and reliance of clever use of magic and light cav.
Rob's Swordmaster List - High Elves Army
1 Noble @ 134 Pts
General; Great Weapon; Dragon Armour
Talisman of Saphery [35]
1 Mage @ 150 Pts
Magic Level 2
Jewel of the Dusk [15]
10 Archers @ 110 Pts
Longbow
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower @ 100 Pts
2 Crew @ [0] Pts
Light Armour
18 First SpearElves @ 196 Pts
Spear; Light Armour; Shield; Standard Bearer; Musician
1 Captain @ [10] Pts
14 Swordmasters @ 255 Pts
Great Weapon; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
1 Bladelord @ [12] Pts
1 Great Eagles @ 50 Pts
Total Army Cost: 995
This is my list for contrast. I believe in balanced armies and blocks of troops. I've chosen less shiny defense units in favour of taking an eagle and bulking up my swordmasters. Works nicely against anyone except for DElves.
Army of the Phoenix King - High Elves Army
1 Prince @ 624 Pts
Dragon Armour
Star Lance [40]
Enchanted Shield [10]
Talisman of Saphery [35]

1 Dragon: Star @ [370] Pts
1 * Noble @ 206 Pts
Great Weapon; Dragon Armour; Shield; Battle Standard
Battle Banner [80]
10 Archers @ 110 Pts

10 Archers @ 110 Pts

19 Phoenix Guard @ 375 Pts
Halberd; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
War Banner [20]
1 Keeper of the Flame @ [37] Pts
Foe Bane [25]
18 Phoenix Guard @ 325 Pts
Halberd; Heavy Armour; Standard; Musician
1 Keeper of the Flame @ [22] Pts
Talisman of Protection [10]
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower @ 100 Pts
2 Crew @ [0] Pts
Light Armour
1 Repeater Bolt Thrower @ 100 Pts
2 Crew @ [0] Pts
Light Armour
1 Great Eagles @ 50 Pts
Total Army Cost: 2000
A thematic 2000 point army. May be hard to use, but will also be hard to kill. Can play as an immovable object defense or as an advancing, onimous inevitability of defeat. Bonus points if you model your prince onto a phoenix instead of a dragon.
