Overview
A Reverse Bang is the reverse of the usual Big Bang challenge. Artists wishing to participate would create artworks that will be posted anonymously to be claimed by authors.

Authors are then expected to write a short fic (minimum of 3,000 words) based on the art they chose.

Both authors and artists are expected to leave their riddlerrbb14 stories, artworks and videos accessible to public for at least 6 months. If you wish to lock or remove your works later, I strongly recommended archiving your works externally on sites such as AO3 or imgur.

Rules and F.A.Q.s for Artists

Each submission should be one (1) piece of new art NOT posted anywhere publicly prior to this challenge.

It should also be completed, in the sense that it is fit to stand-alone as a prompt for authors. You can still make changes, refine, or add on to the art later on after claims.

Minimum requirements: 500x500px for a 2-dimensional art, or 30 seconds for a video. There is no maximum.

Artists may submit up to three (3) pieces of art for this challenge only if they make the Early Bird deadline with one of them. After that date only one submission will be allowed per artist.
The Early Bird deadline this year will be Monday, May 12th. All art will be due Sunday, May 18th.

This challenge is open to all pairings and genres, so long as each submission includes any reincarnation of the Riddler in a major way. Artists may choose to specify any other characters, pairings, or ideas they envision in the story in a short text description with their prompts (optional). More information on art submissions will be posted later on, so please keep an eye out.

Artists are also allowed to sign up as authors, and vice versa. Please, PLEASE make sure you're able to handle all the work if you do sign up for both.

Please sign up to participate as an artist HERE.

What kind of art can we do?
Art can be of any type: Illustrations (traditional, digital or mixed media), 3D (in a 2-dimensional image render), graphics, photo-manipulations, crafts or videos.

Can I use existing images, fanart or comic panels in my art/video?
No, we do not allow the use of existing fanart in your submissions. However, you may use images from official works (cover art, comic panels etc.) to include in your video or create a new graphic.

Can I use screenshots and clips from official animated works, games and such?
Yes, you can.

Can I use copyrighted music in my video?
Yes, you can. However, the original artists MUST be acknowledged and credited. It is preferable to use Public Domain or Creative Commons music if possible.

Rules and F.A.Q.s for Authors

Authors are required to write a fic with a minimum of 3,000 words based on the art they choose during the Art Claims. Claims will be held on first come, first serve basis.

All fics must be related to the art for which it is written, and it must NOT be already posted elsewhere prior to the challenge.

Rough drafts will be due Monday, July 28th. They are expected to be complete (having a beginning, middle and end) and meet the minimum requirement of 3,000 words. In the case of longer stories (more than 8,000 words), your drafts are expected to be at least 80% complete at the time of submission.

A certain level of communication with your artist is expected. If you do not meet your deadlines or fail to communicate with your artist and fail to respond to our attempts of communication, warnings will be given and a pinch-hitter will automatically be assigned.

The authors' check-in is MANDATORY. All participating authors are expected to check in with us at this time. This is to make sure everyone is on track and no one has disappeared from the challenge. If you fail to check in at this time or make arrangements with us we will contact you. If we do not hear back we will automatically assign a pinch hitter to the prompt.

Authors are also allowed to sign up as artists, and vice versa. Please, PLEASE make sure you're able to handle all the work if you do sign up for both.

Please sign up to participate as an author HERE.

What can I write for this challenge?
You can write anything you wish, whether it is gen, m/m, m/f, f/f, moresome, action, AU, and etc. so long as it includes the Riddler and respects the artist's wishes and expectations of their prompt(s).

Can I use a WIP I've already started?
WIPs are okay so long as they are not publicly available prior to you signing up for the challenge and related to the art prompt you're writing for.

Can I write a spin-off of one of my existing stories/AUs?
Yes. Sequels and spin offs of an existing verses are allowed so long as the story can stand on its own and is related to the art prompt you're writing for.

Do I need to have my story beta-read?
We do not enforce this rule strictly, but it is very strongly recommended that you do. If you have trouble finding a beta reader, send us a message or e-mail and we'll help you out.

Claiming Process
  1. Art claims will officially begin on Friday, May 23rd. However, the post with all submitted prompts will be up a few days beforehand so that authors may take a look at all the art before the actual claiming starts. The art posts will contain thumbnail previews of all the art (the thumbnails will link to the full size version of the art), accompanied by an optional text description of the subject. All art will be posted anonymously, and claims will be first come, first serve.
  2. During the first round of claims each author is allowed to make just one claim. Claiming of a prompt by multiple authors will NOT be allowed.
  3. If there are any prompts left unclaimed after 24 hours from the time claims open, a second round would be held. This will be a free-for-all. Authors who have already claimed a prompt previously are allowed to claim another.
  4. The specific time of claims will be announced at least a week in advance so everyone will be able to make plans to be there.
  5. Claiming via proxy will be allowed this year. The details on how to do that will be provided when the art preview post goes up.
